Battle through Gridlock
Unfortunately, the political gridlock originating from the federal level and Robin Vos’s leadership is preventing crucial legislation from being passed. Avery has worked extensively across the aisle due to his farming background. He will apply these lessons to fight through the gridlock and get much needed work done, while staying true to the community’s values.
Fight for our Public School Teachers
Wisconsin should be the best state in the country for teachers to work in. To make this happen, we need to pay them more: we’ve fallen well below the national average for teacher pay. Avery proposes redirecting money currently going towards private schools to give our public-school teachers a well-deserved raise. Avery has more grievances with the way we fund schools, which you can read about here: Issues — Avery Renk for Assembly.
Expand Access to Healthcare
Badgercare is a critical resource for thousands of individuals and families in Wisconsin. Unfortunately, Wisconsin is one of only ten states- and the only one in the region- that has yet to accept the Medicaid expansion from the Affordable Care Act. This is preventing Wisconsin from receiving higher matching funds from the federal government. Accepting this expansion is a no-brainer. It gets more people affordable healthcare, and it gets Wisconsin more money. Avery strongly supports accepting the Medicaid expansion.
Conserve our environment
Wisconsin has one of the most serene environments in the world, and it is worth protecting. One of Wisconsin’s most important ecosystems are its wetlands, which promote biodiversity and mitigate climate change. Right now, Wisconsin offers significant property tax benefits to owners of forestland if they agree to conserve the forest. Avery proposes introducing a reciprocal program for owners of wetlands.
Stand up for the issues that matter to us
As a lifelong resident, Avery understands our community’s values and is ready to fight for them. Avery will always support a woman’s right to make decisions for her own body and stand against gun violence. Avery will address the ongoing housing crisis in two ways: proposing annual rent increase limits and supporting local efforts to address the supply shortage.
